Designing for scale, and in orgs that operate similar to ours, can be attractive because it gives higher confidence we can set this person up for success. That said, we always look at portfolios/experience/a candidate's ideas and how they express them, closely. I really love to find creative connections between real work experience and the problems we are facing because that was all of us at one point... I certainly didn't start out working at pedigreed companies. Sometimes working at a brand-name company can actually hurt an application too, because of the reputation of that company's culture or some other factor. So, it isn't really a blanket statement that we can make. We are committed to building an incredible, well-rounded team, which means giving folks a fair chance if their experience and qualifications speak to the job posting requirements.
