2025 Disclosures

An annual statement on what I believe & how it influences me

13 min readJan 11, 2025

There’s an Orlando newspaper columnist I like, Scott Maxwell, who publishes his journalistic ‘disclosures’ each year. I aim to write and publish more in 2025, so I figure this might be a good way to get me going.

Scott Maxwell, an Orlando journalist, publishes his 2025 disclosures

As we bid adieu to another wild year in Florida, it’s time to continue a tradition started by one of my former colleagues, columnist Charley Reese — with an annual disclosure. Charley believed that if columnists are going to tell you what they think all year long, they should first tell you who they are and where they stand.
— Scott Maxwell

The new year makes me want to reevaluate my life and start on fresh goals. It’s a natural point to reckon with the past and future. This exercise of disclosing those thoughts and analysis has the potential to be radically honest and accepting, a chance to say, ‘Here’s what shaped me in the past, it is what it is, and here is how I choose to go forward. ’

I am also still fairly new to the team at Medium and disclosures feel like a good way for people to get to know how I think. It’s a somewhat self-serving gift, but I do hope it is a gift, to bare myself more openly so that people know what they’re getting into with me.
